‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’ box office release: ‘Big films like ‘Sooryavanshi’ and ’83’ would do the trick at the box office’; says senior trade analyst – Times of India

Diljit Dosanjh, Manoj Bajpayee and Fatima Sana Shaikh starrer ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari‘ is the first new Bollywood film to release in theatres on Sunday. With many films like ‘Tanhaji’, ‘War’, ‘Malang’ re-releasing in theatres, ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’ has come as a breath of fresh air to cinemagoers.

In an exclusive conversation with ETimes, senior trade analyst Taran Adarsh spoke about the box office collection of ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’ and how it has been the right step for theatrical cinema which had been closed for a long time due to the pandemic.

When quizzed about the first-day box office collection of the film, Adarsh said, “The collections of ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’ are not good on the opening day. But let’s be honest about the release as the film industry has re-opened after nearly six months so no one is actually looking at the box office collection of the film. It’s going to take time for the box office to get back to normal again. Meanwhile, talking about the film, the footfalls were very low yesterday which indicates that was not an encouraging start but it’s a big step for theatrical releases.”

Furthermore, he added, “It would take time for theatrical business to get back to normal and big films like ‘Sooryavanshi‘ and ‘83‘ would do the trick at the box office whenever they release. But at the moment it’s going to take time for the film industry to get back on track and ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’ is the first step in the right direction.”

Talking about the 50% occupancy in theatres, the senior trade analyst said, “Not all theatres have opened yet and certain regions and states have still not re-opened the theatres. The theatrical business needed a ‘new film’ to inform the audience that theatres have opened. And we can’t expect the cinema halls to be house-full even with 50% occupancy as soon as they re-opened. The release of ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’ shows the producers solidarity with the exhibition centre which is a good sign for Bollywood.”
