NEW DELHI: One Army jawan was killed on Saturday in ceasefire violation by Pakistan along Line of Control in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials.
The unprovoked firing from across the border in Lam area of Nowshera sector took place around 1 am.
The firing led to severe injuries to a havaldar who died later, the official said.
The unprovoked fire was met by strong retaliation by the Indian Army. The cross-border firing between the two sides continued for quite some time, the official added.
The latest ceasefire violation came a week after four civilians were killed and several others were injured after Pakistan resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations on multiple sectors along LOC in J&K.
A day later, India conducted retaliatory punitive fire assaults against posts, bunkers and fuel dumps across the LOC in Kashmir, in which six to seven Pakistani soldiers were reportedly killed and several others injured. Five Indian soldiers and four civilians, including a woman, also lost their lives in the heavy exchange of cross-border firing.
