NEW DELHI: Suffering from kidney failure and seeking a donor while being on dialysis, hockey veteran and Olympian Mohinder Pal Singh has received a financial support of Rs 10 lakh from the Sports Ministry — sources in the Sports Authority of India told Timesofindia.com.
As reported by Timesofindia.com in October, Singh, a member of India’s 1988 Seoul Olympics and 1986 World Cup team, was diagnosed with a kidney ailment in 2017. His condition worsened in September this year, following which he was hospitalised and has required regular dialysis.
With both his kidneys failing, the family has been looking for a donor. However, the condition of his heart isn’t yet conducive for his body to receive and accept an implant.
According to sources, in addition to the financial support provided by the Sports Ministry, Mahesh Sharma — the Member of Parliament from the constituency in Noida where the 59-year-old Singh lives — has also promised to take care of the expenses related to hospital admission from the Prime Minister’s Relief fund.
Some of India’s hockey veterans had earlier reached out to Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju to extend help to Singh, and the minister had promised the same.
